Secret Marriage Agreement into Public—-Tiger Woods
On a palm-fringed stretch of headland overlooking the Atlantic, a small army of construction workers is hard at work putting the finishing touches to a grand mansion that will dwarf the other properties on the private Florida island on which it is being built.
Such is the obsessive desire for secrecy of the new home’s owner that those working on it are required to hand- over their mobile phones on arrival lest they take photographs of its lavish interior.
Meanwhile, everyone involved in the project, from architects to carpet-fitters, has been required to sign a super-strict confidentially agreement.
All of which, given the seemingly endless stream of lurid stories that continue to emerge about the complicated private life of the property’s owner, Tiger Woods, would seem to be a case of shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted.
First there was the allegation of an affair with New York socialite Rachel Uchitel. Another woman, 24-year-old Jaimee Grubbs has already gone into print in the U.S. with tales of 20 sexual encounters she shared with Woods backed up by a series of steamy texts.
A third woman, nightclub hostess Kalika Moquin, 27, is also said to be negotiating a kiss and tell with an American supermarket tabloid.
Hardly surprising, then, that some of those same building workers, sworn to secrecy by the paranoid star, have been letting slip details of the palatial £30million dream home in the exclusive enclave of Jupiter Island, whose other wealthy residents include fellow golfer Gary Player and singer Celine Dion.
The white brick and blue glass property will feature 15 bedrooms, a spa and a separate two-floor gym and pool complex reached by a covered glass walkway.
It was to have been the perfect home for the perfect couple. Now there are serious questions as to whether Woods and his beautiful Swedish model wife Elin Nordegren will ever move in.
Not least because the cliquey world of the pro golf tour is awash with rumours that Woods, his wife of five years and – crucially – their separate legal teams, have already begun negotiating the details of a possible divorce that would most likely end up being the most expensive in celebrity history. (Last night some sources in the U.S. claimed the final figure could be as high as $300million.)
Meanwhile, one respected columnist in America is reporting that the 33-year-old world number one has already given in to his wife’s demands in recent days to renegotiate the pre-nup they signed before their October 2004 marriage.
It is claimed that under the old agreement, the couple were required to be married for a period of ten years before 28-year- old Miss Nordegren would be entitled to a $20million settlement should they divorce.
Under the terms of the new deal, it is claimed, the time frame will be shortened and the amount she will receive if they split is increased substantially.
